Last Tuesday I got a present of two Kaki off one Obasan student and Anpan man bread rolls off another. The regular food offerings from these students now sustain me through the day on Tuesdays(three long kids classes) as I never get around to eating breakfast before I go. God bless 'em.
Went to Fushimi-Inari shrine at the weekend. It seems like I've been going to Kyoto a lot recently and I'm in danger of getting really tired of temples and shrines and stuff. So definetly going to take a break from that place, at least until the lads are over for New Years. Anyway Fushimi-Inari was actually really nice. The weather was cold, but not freezing. There were still a lot of momiji to be seen, and the hundreds of Torii gates and fox statues were pretty atmospheric. I've rearranged all my photos (and lowered the quality of all of them so they load faster) and added some of this weekend.
I also finally got my tickets to Singapore, yatta, this morning. The whole thing was organised through email which I was worried about but I guess it was no problem. I'd missed the last two times the delivery guy came with the tickets so I asked Japanese school staff on Friday to call them and arrange a time..another fine example of how my years Japanese lessons have come to nought.
This week I also finished Quicksilver..double plus yoshi. Its hard to describe what it was about..basically a load of characters running around and meeting famous people like Newton in the late 1600's...It had its good bits and bad bits..nothing compared to Cryptonomicon though. The worst part was having to lug this 900 page brick around with me on the trains. Now I have to decide whether its worth it to read the two other parts to the same story, each as hefty as the first.
Being in Japan I get to see loads of old cartoons that I saw years ago but had no idea were Japanese. Most of them involved huge robots of one kind or another doing battle..one of them being Battle of the Planets. I never appreciated how bad the animation was, but I also had no idea how old it was either. But anyway now I get to watch it in all its original Japanese glory..until I change the channel after a few seconds.
