Ravenous Pigeon Digest

I didn't notice until a couple of weeks after the fact, but Bloomsday has come and gone once more. At one stage, the uncomfortable reminder that I was wasting the summer, now I don't even notice it. Thats at least partially down to the general crapiness of the summer, and also down to my job hunting.

My boxes from Japan finally arrived after their transoceanic voyage, and not in the best of conditions. They all looked like they'd been sat on by a burly bouncer, the ends of the boxes having burst out. Everything looked accounted for (I can even smell Japan on my t-shirts but that could just be the shipping crate) but for one guide book, which I wouldn't miss except I stuck souvenir ticket stubs in its pages to keep them flat. And now they're gone forever..sniff.

I've had about 50 BBQ's since I got back - something I longed for when I was in Kobe but now I'm sick of burnt burgers and chicken. Their charred remains will probably be responsible for various cancers of mine in later life. But I'm really missing some proper fish now. This weeked I smelled BBQ's walking past the driveways of houses here, the scorching hot summer weather (26 degrees) finally having arrived. I'm glad theres finally a little sun (June and July having been depressingly overcast) but the affect this has on the Irish psyche is remarkable - I can now see the glorious tatoo work on so many Irish scangers bare torsos as they swill their Bulmers. Just excellent.
