So last Tuesday the plans were released for the future of Dublin's public transport. The good news is we'll will finally get a subway/underground going through the city centre. The bad news is, I'll probably be in my 40's by the time the first trains are running on it.

The map doesn't quite look like this one I mentioned before, but I guess its something. I can't really understand the huge expansion plans for Dublin's trams (LUAS), as each of the lines will go from the suburbs and terminate in the city centre, rather than going through and around it. And though they're a big improvement on buses, with all their stations its going to take forever to get into town. And none of it is going to stop Dublin's continued sprawl into the countryside.

In the paper:

'The huge scale of the work will mean traffic chaos in the capital's city centre for much of the next decade. "O'Connell Street will have to be dug up again," said one industry source last night.'...O'Connell St. being Dublin's main thoroughfare which has been under construction for the past three years.

And I love this quote from one of our ministers:

"In effect, the St. Stephen’s Green Station will be to Dublin what Grand Central is to New York – integrating all services at a central City Centre location."..man, if that isn't tempting fate. Not that I've ever been to grand central station but I just can't imagine it under this place..
