Ravenous Pigeon Digest

So it seems an architect, under pressure from a nasty-big construction company, has been caught out falsifying data to show how safe their buildings are during earthquakes. That this happened in very-earthquake-prone Japan is pretty scandalous.

According to the article, the architect in question started falsifying earthquake safety reports in 1998. But I guess the not-so-stiff fine of around 3000euro wasn't enough to put him off. 78 buildings including 36 hotels will now have to be demolished as a result.

Why does this come as no suprise - having seen how fast new houses and buildings go up, and how cramped together they are, there's got to be more than just this guy or one construction company fiddling the books. link
