So last week I had the chance to go skiiing for the first time. And how was it? Well the good news is I didn't break anything , the bad news was two whole days out of the four spent travelling and sitting in airports. On the way back, the dead time couldn't be helped cos we were travelling back on a Sunday when there's no direct flights, and it was the same day of the Ireland v England rubgy match.
But on the way out though, our plane was delayed an hour due to being de-iced because of snow flurries at Dublin airport. Now I'm sure theres some irony somewhere there..
As to my skiing, I wiped out a good few times on the first day and got a little to big for my (really really annoying ski) boots and went on one of the slightly harder slopes and paid for it with a sore head and jelly legs. There were plenty of little kids without a care in the world to rub salt in the embarassement. But by the second day I found my ski-feet so to speak, and enjoyed it much more.
I must have looked very dapper in my borrowed single piece eighties style ski suit, compared to all the snow boarding posers in their lates quicksliver threads..
The scenary was absolutely spectacular anyway, but how people were skiing down some of those ravines with huge cliffs off to one side I'll never no..and I'm in no rush to find out.
