I happened to be at home today when Barack Obama was on the news giving his speech to announce his intention to run for US president. Maybe its just that the last 7 years have been so bad, but I can't remember the last time I heard a politician speak that generated thoughts other than the deepest cynicism. I was thinking this must be what it was like to hear the Kennedys speaking when they were around, or Martin Luther King; listening to someone with a real power of oratory. I don`t know much about his policies and I certainly can't vote in their election, but it would be quite a thing to have a US president like that. Unfortutly I'm sure that if he becomes a viable proposition the powers that be will intervene to have him...neutralized. The text and video of the speech is here via the washingtonpost.
