Ravenous Pigeon Digest

Today was supposed to be a rest day of sorts. Seeing as how I couldn't get a flight north in time I've got one extra day in Saigon on my hands.

Needing to add to my quintessential Vietnamese experiences, I chose a particularly wrecked looking old guy to ask for a Cyclo ride - basically a bicycle with a big bucket in between two front wheels where you sit. I asked him to take me somewhere five minutes down the road, not wanting to be the cause of some coronary on his part. The ride was slow and pleasant at first, until we joined major traffic and there was I sitting in this bicycle bucket in the middle of a huge roundabout with hundreds and hundreds of scooters blaring their horns and flying in every direction. After that the guy cycled us down the wrong way of a one way street. It was a very long five minutes and the guy totally ripped me off, but twas worth it.

In the afternoon I did my only siteseeing of the day to the War Museum, the post popular attraction in the city. I didn't really have any intention of doing any war related siteseeing while in the country but I presumed this place was popular for a reason. Plenty of photos of American torture and napalm; it was pretty horrific. And jammers. Lots and lots of people posing outside in front of tanks and artillery pieces. It certainly makes you notice some of the people back in the city centre walking around missing a limb or severly burned.

Of course, got completely lost going back to the guesthouse again. I was stepping over chickens and rats down some side alley, nearly walking in on peoples dinner, and really starting to get nervous before backtracking enough to find the place, and again everyone sprawled asleep all over the place.
