Though Sydney is similar enough to back home that I often don't think about being abroad, there are enough little differences to keep reminding me that I'm somewhere else. There are the security guards who ask you to open your bag when you leave shops, there're the hundreds of varieties of "Tasty" cheese in the supermarkets, the army hats where they clip one side to the head, Flat White's, Schooners, "Ute's", not to mention Christmas in the summer.
But one of the kind of strange things I noticed recently is the apparent fondness for shops named after people, which means also including a cartoon of said person on the shop logo. Something about it feels a little..I don't know, quaint?
Speaking of shops, it seems that without any Halloween to stall things, it's well into the Christmas season at most department stores. Many of them have had a Christmas section up since the beginning of October, and yesterday I saw plenty of reindeer and Christmas trees. Hearing "walking in a winter wonderland" in the background just makes no sense with its 27 degrees outside and getting hotter.
