Ravenous Pigeon Digest

So last Tuesday my American flatmate moved out, and over to Korea for a cushier job apparently. But he took his ever-so-handy laptop with him and now I back to using the crappy old computer from before that might as well have levers and pullies inside for all it can do. So it looks like plenty more trips to the Popeye internet cafe. I`ll have to tonnes of free coke and coffee just to make up for it. This is also why the entry is late and will probably be late in the future.

The loss of a decent computer is doubly inconvenient because I'd just decided to try and develop a website for a few other teachers looking to do some sort of event guide and community site for Osaka foreigners. Seeing as I haven't done anything computer related in ages, and I'm going to have to get a job in the not so distant future, I thought it might be a could idea. Now I'll have to do it from the feckin internet cafe.

Last week was also kids model classes - sample kids classes for parents to send their kids to see if they like it. As I imagined, most of the younger kids were bawling their eyes out and didn`t want to let go of their mothers for a second. I was already being extra genki trying to sell the class but I really poured on the smiles to try and get the kids to stop crying. 100% pure cringe. The toughest was one of the students was disabled and only had the use of one hand and couldnt walk, which meant rearranging all the games. I have no training (or aptitude) for this. But they all signed up so that has to mean something.

The election last week didn`t turn out to be as thrilling as I`d hoped either. As it was, I didn`t get to stay and watch the coverage on TV but the spectacle I was kinda hoping for just didnt materialise. I`ll have to satisfy myself with this scary headline.

On Sunday, being a nice Autumn day, me and Keiko went to Ginkakuji in Kyoto. The (supposedly) Silver Pavillion wasn`t that impressive, but the surrounding gardens more than made up for it. And the place was thronged. Outside the temple was a nice strole down Philosophers Walk, a path along a river which leads south back into the city a bit more (There should be a few autumn pics up soon). And then I finally crumbled to the pressure and went into my first Irish pub since I've got here. Went into Tadg's Irish pub in Kyoto where I was pleasantly suprised to see actual Irish staff. The smell of the mushy peas and potatoes brought it all back..*wipes the tears*..
