A few various links to these cool looking vertical wind turbines that use magnets to cut down on friction and make them way more efficient. Unfortunatly it seems to be a bit of nonsense but I remain optimistic.
Metafilter has a lot more than I can say on it.

Inhabitat has further interesting renewable energy stuff, like this Wind Dam. At least the drawing looks cool.
Even google is getting in on the action..
