Ravenous Pigeon Digest

26.10.13

Another few months, another move. It had to happen given that the price of everything is rising faster than my wages. We've had to moved out of our respectable flat in a nice boring neighbourhood close to shops and a park.

Now we're in a much cheaper and more inconvenient place. The floors in each of the rooms seem to slope in random directions, as do the walls which makes the furniture look like its going to topple over. It kind of makes for an uneasy feeling and though it's not quite like a fun house room we're still slightly concerned is going to mess with our balance.

More annoying than that however is water condensing on surfaces everywhere. I used to roll my eyes a little when getting advice on accommodation - make sure it's not north facing! - but it seems to make a huge difference in this country of mold and damp. A kitchen with a window is also a luxury I'd never had it my own place (they're invariably little kitchenette things stuck on to the living room) but now its more of a chore than anything. Having to wipe down the windows before they become dripping wet and chasing the mold creeping out of the corners of the ceiling is demoralizing. And the front door has swollen so much we have to kick it in like a police raid every time we come home.

But it's not all bad. We're off the ground floor now and have a chance of seeing the sun from the window in the winter, however briefly.
